Fashion Friday — Back to Fall

Published by Wednesday Martin

On Labor Day weekend, a woman with kids is thinking Back to School. Or she's in denial about it.

Out here in the Hamptons, my tribe has been in our exercise clothes for much of every day, all summer long. Lulu Lemon remains the brand of choice. Fitness to these women is what thin-ness and dieting were to their mothers. "Skinny" is not what it's about....not exactly...toned is the goal. This means a more active, work-ethic-y relationship to body changes, doing stuff to and with one's body, rather than a passive relationship to it, all about what you don't do (eat). Anyway, these are my thoughts as we segue to fall and the Manhattan mommy tribe continues exercising out here. Physique 57, Flywheel, Soul Cycle, Barry's Boot Camp, SLT (Strengthen, Lengthen and Tone) plus biking and stand up paddle boarding are popular fitness practices. The surfers are a whole other tribe — we can't get into that here. There are many yoga and pilates loyalists, still.

Backs are on display at the place I exercise, Physique 57. The back is a new erogenous zone, from what I can tell. Here are two beautiful, fit women featuring a popular look: a high topknot and a lot of reveal of a super gorgeous, muscled back. A ripped back is the new sexy cleavage, it seems. And fit is the new skinny.
